Puppy portrait time...
4. Banjo
3. Dobie
2. Beryl
1. Badger
Tuesday20/5/25 8:00am
The puppies enjoy (or at least are very noisy) when they are in the pen in the front room. They get to interact with our other dogs and the cat in there.
Monday19/5/25 8:20pm
We have given all the puppies nick names now. We don't use these names when talking to them as we want their actual names to be given to them by their owners. However it is useful to use a nickname when referring to them. They are...
4, Black & white, narrow white blaze on head, broken white collar ♂ 'Banjo'
3, Black & tan, mostly black, tan muzzle ♂ 'Dobie'
2, Black, head black all over four white paws ♀ 'Beryl'
1, Black & white, Broad white band down center of face Small white patch on back, right flank ♂ 'Badger' ,
Sunday 18/5/25 3:am
The puppies and especially the female, Beryl have now got very good at getting out of the pen if the half door is open. So we have to keep the door shut to keep them in. this involves Pasi doing a bit of acrobatics to get in and out of the pen.
Saturday 17/5/25 6:30pm
Pilchards for the puppies tonight, mixed in with their usual kibble soaked in Lactol and salmon oil.
Friday 16/5/25 1:30 pm
Pasi is a lot less keen on feeding them these days. Shes asks to go into the pen, but usually only spends a minute or two in there feeding them.
Thursday 15/5/25 8:30 am
A new surface for the puppies today plastic mats. We like to put lots of different textures in the pens so they get used to walking on all sorts of surfaces.
Wednesday 14/5/25 7:10 pm
Dobie is turning out to be very confident. Always first at anything new and tends to take charge!
Tuesday 13/5/25 7:45 pm
The puppies are now getting lots of different foods mixed in with their usual puppy kibble soaked in Lactol. Today it's macaroni cheese.
Monday 12/5/25 3:45 pm
First visitors for the puppies. The more people they meet the better. Although this is quite early, not so much for the puppies but for the mums. The friends in question are very experienced dog people so no issues.
Sunday 11/5/25 7:50 pm
Moving day for the puppies. A big dual pen set up for both litters. This gives the more space to play in and a proper (if not huge for them) dog bed.
Saturday10/5/25 7:50 pm
First escapee from this whelping box. The rooms they are in are secure and safe so there is no real drama. But it does mean a we are going to need a bigger pen!
Friday 9/5/25 4:45 pm
First solid(ish) food for the puppies. Puppy kibble soaked and mashed up in Lactol. This was a real hit with all of them.
Thursday 8/5/25 4:10 pm
Lots of licking from the puppies. Also noticed their canine teeth are through.
Wednesday 7/05/25 4:45 pm
Dobie seen having good tussle with a toy.
Tuesday 6/05/25 7:45 pm
The puppies are now very wriggly and don't particularly enjoy sting still on the scales, making the daily weigh in a little more tricky..
Monday 5/05/25 2:00 pm
Lots of tail waging, play bowing and being expressive. We can really see the puppies moods.
Sunday 4/05/25 7:70 pm
The puppies have become very licky. Licking our feet and legs when we walk through the whelping box and trying to lick our fingers when we pick them up. Very cute!
Saturday 3/05/25 11:00 am
The puppies have now got into a sleep wake cycle. They are quiet at night (thank goodness) and although they sleep a lot during the day, they have times when they are all awake, then they all go to sleep for a bit.
Friday 2/05/25 10:20 am
The puppies now flock as you walk through the pen. This makes weighing etc. a bit more fun!
Thursday 1/05/25 7:45 pm
All the puppies eyes are now fully open. They can't focus yet, but look at you as you pick them up.
Wednesday 30/04/25 7:20 pm
Proper barking noises coming from the puppies.
Tuesday 29/04/25 10:20 am
The puppies are all playing with each other and interacting with their environment more.
Monday 28/04/25 8:10 pm
It's the puppies' last Super Dog session, so here are some graduation photos...
Puppy number 4, black and white male
Puppy number 3, black and tan male, "Dobie"
Puppy number 2, black female
Puppy number 1, black and white male, "Badger"
Sunday 27/04/25 11:15 am
We have radios on in both puppy rooms, If you want some entertainment tune into the Puppy
Cam at 7:00pm or 7:15pm when the Archers is on. Pasi always howls at the theme tune.
Saturday 26/04/25 1:40 pm
Saw Dobie playing with puppy number 4. First time I have seem them deliberately interact with each other.
Friday 25/04/25 10:30 am
We have put a couple of dog toys in the whelping box as the puppies are beginning to interact with their surroundings more.
Thursday 24/04/25 8:20 pm
The black & tan boy, "Dobie" has both his eyes open now. The Super Dog session is also good for checking on each puppy's progress so you get to spot milestones like this as they happen.
Wednesday 23/04/25 10:30 pm
Finally found out why Pasi whinges at night, it's food. If I give her a late night snack she sleeps through the night (happy days or nights even)..
Tuesday 22/04/25 6:00 pm
The puppies diet is easy, mothers milk. Pasi's current diet is a bit more complex. She gets a little tined food (to add flavor and texture), our usual adult kibble (about a quarter of normal) and the rest is puppy kibble that the puppies will be put on when they are ready. She also has a few squirts of salmon oil, this is a good source of DHA which is good for the puppies' development. She is currently on three meals a day and for her evening meal she also gets a bit of a treat mixed in, sardines, tuna etc.
Monday 21/04/25 18:18 pm
Just to let everyone know where the litters are etc. Pasi is in a whelping box in our bedroom. This is so one of us can spend the night with them to ensure their well being. There is a heat pad under one corner of the box so the puppies can keep as warm as they like. There is a maximum - minimum thermometer and hygrometer in the room near the whelping box so we can monitor the air temperature and moisture level. They will stay in there until their eyes open and they get more mobile, then they will be moved to a bigger puppy pen (and we will get better nights sleep!)
Sunday 20/04/25 17:15 pm
Badger has learned to walk. He was spotted up on his feet wobbling around. The puppies seem to be more advanced than full bred Spanish Water Dogs.
Saturday 19/04/25 18:40 pm
Second puppy to get a nickname is Dobie, the black & tan boy. Pasi is being her
Friday 18/04/25 15:20 pm
Pasi is being her usual diva self, asking to come out of the bedroom a lot. The good side of this is that the puppies are learning to be alone for short periods and Pasi is getting a rest
Thursday 17/04/25 03;00 pm
Pasi has developed this annoying habit of whinging in the middle of the night. Not because she wants to got out, tried that. Not because she needs a drink, she has plenty of water. Good job we love her.
Wednesday 16/04/25 7;40 pm
The puppies had their first Super Dog session. It is done once a day and consists of holding the puppies first upright, then on then upside down, then on their backs. Next their paws are tickled with a cotton bud, finally they are placed on a cold wet flannel for a few seconds. This is a research based system that promotes neural growth and can also help development of their immune system.
Tuesday 15/04/25 3;00 pm
Pasi is taking to being a mother again like an old hand. She asks to go out to the toilet. goes out, then swiftly returns to puppy duties. We are so proud of her.
Monday 14/04/25 7;30 pm
First weigh in for the puppies. This is also good for getting the puppies used to being handled. Click here for the weights graph.
Monday 14/04/25 1;05 pm
Mum and puppies happy and contented.
Puppy 4
Puppy 3
Puppy 2
Puppy 1, he's is the first to be nicknamed, "Badger". We don't use these nicknames to the puppy (so the first name they get to here is the one their new owners give them, but it's nicer when referring to them use a nickname, rather then "puppy 1" etc.
