The puppies are all developing their own characters. Playing differently and showing their own personalities in terms of forwardness, inquisitiveness etc.
Monday19/5/25 7:40pm
We have given all the puppies nick names now. We don't use these names when talking to them as we want their actual names to be given to them by their owners. However it is useful to use a nickname when referring to them. They are...

7. Black, tan & white, tan under cheeks, on tail and legs ♂. "Bernie"
6. Black & white, black patches on eyes, spot of black in central blaze, complete white collar ♂. "Panda"
5. Black, white & tan, black head, white collar, four white legs, tan on bottom, little on legs and cheeks ♀. "Polly"

Sunday 18/5/25 10:10am
The puppies all have a full set of puppy teeth. Very sharp and not much fun if you go into the pen with bear legs! They don't mean anything, they just like exploring the world with their mouths.
Saturday 17/5/25 6:30pm
Pilchards for the puppies tonight, mixed in with their usual kibble soaked in Lactol and salmon oil.
Friday 16/5/25 11:05 am
Swimming in the water bowl is the new puppy craze! Time for a spare water bowl in each pen.
Thursday 15/5/25 9:45 am
The puppies are using their toilet a bit! We have a tray with puppy pads. Unfortunately they also enjoy playing tuggy with the pads.
Wednesday 14/5/25 10:00 am
We have put lots of toys in the puppy pen and the puppies are enjoying playing with them.
Tuesday 13/5/25 7:45 pm
The puppies are now getting lots of different foods mixed in with their usual puppy kibble soaked in Lactol. Today it's macaroni cheese.
Monday 12/5/25 3:45 pm
The puppies had their first visitors. Some friends of ours who are prospective puppy owners. It was quite early at four weeks to receive visitors, but these two are very experienced dog people and so their were no problems. The puppies loved all the attention. Pili was a bit less impressed.
Sunday 11/5/25 7:50 pm
Moving day for the puppies. They are now in their bigger puppy pen in the dog room (which we have turfed the other dogs out of). At first they found it ab it over whelming, with lots of hiding behind the dog bed, But after an hour or so they began to enjoy the extra space and things to explore.
Saturday10/5/25 7:50 pm
The puppies' first different species visitor. Our Norwegian forest cat, Olaf, got into the puppy room, but he wasn't at all interested in the puppies, he just wanted to get out the window! He is nominally a house cat, but he manages to get out on a fairly regular basis.
Friday 9/5/25 4:10 pm
The single use puppy pen is holding up well. We put a fresh layer of puppy pads under the vet bed, to absorb any "liquid" and the congregated cardboard is perfectly dry and in good condition.
Thursday 8/5/25 4:10 pm
Our first puppy escapee. I found Pili feeding the escaped one outside the whelping box. We have taped up the flap at the entrance to stop this happening again. However it won't be long until they need a bigger pen.
Wednesday 7/05/25 10:30 am
Much to Pili's delight (not) the puppies are now happily feeding, standing up. So as soon as she gets in the pen she has a little flock of hangers on.
Tuesday 6/05/25 7:35 pm
The puppies are getting harder to identify. Some of the markings they were born with, have melded into each other. If we take our time we get it right in the end..
Monday 5/05/25 7:00 pm
The puppies are now getting quite expressive. Tail wagging and play bowing.
Sunday 4/05/25 11:50 am
Lots of puppy play. They are all enjoying life.
Saturday 3/05/25 09:30 am
We found a puppy trying to get at Pili's food, which we had put in the whelping box. Pili's wasn't impressed. It wont be long before we start feeding the puppies.
Friday 2/05/25 8:05 pm
The puppies eyes are now fully open. They can't focus yet, but you can see them looking at you.
Thursday 1/05/25 7:45 pm
The puppies are all looking very cute. They now have fully formed puppy faces which are hard not to find adorable.
Wednesday 30/04/25 7:20 pm
Proper barking noises coming from the puppies.
Tuesday 29/04/25 9:00 am
The puppies are all running around now, They are interacting with each other and generally having a good time!
Monday 28/04/25 7:50 pm
It's the puppies' last Super Dog session, so here are some graduation photos...

Puppy number 3, black and white, bob tail male
Puppy number 2, black and white, long tail female
Puppy number 1, black and white, tailless male
Sunday 27/04/25 11:15 am
We have radios on in both puppy rooms, The puppies are now beginning to hear and it's important for them to be exposed to everyday sound. So Radio 4 it is. Let's hope one of them goes to live with Melvyn Bragg!
Saturday 26/04/25 7:45 pm
The puppies are all getting a lot more mobile. They are all up on their legs and wobbling about.
Friday 25/04/25 10:30 am
We have put a dog toy in the whelping box as the puppies are beginning to interact with their surroundings more. This one is a a rustly textured one. Unfortunately the puppies don't have much of an idea of night time yet!
Thursday 24/04/25 8:05 pm
The black and tan boy has one eye open and some of the others eyes are beginning to open as well.
Wednesday 23/04/25 1:00 pm
Pili is getting more relaxed, she is now more than happy to leave the pups for a while and she seems to have lost the urge to scuff up the whelping box mats.
Tuesday 22/04/25 19:10 pm
Pili gets fed three times a day, in the whelping box or just outside as that's the way she prefers it. She gets a little tined food (to add flavor and texture), our usual adult kibble (about a quarter of normal) and the rest is puppy kibble that the puppies will be put on when they are ready. She also has a few squirts of salmon oil, this is a good source of DHA which is good for the puppies' development. She also gets a bit of a treat mixed in, sardines, tuna etc. to her evening meal.
Monday 21/04/25 18;20 pm
Pili seems to have lost the habit of scuffing up the bedding in the whelping box. There is a heat pad in a quarter of the the box, but we have a maximum-minimum thermometer and hygrometer to make sure the air temperature and moisture levels stay within the correct range.
Sunday 20/04/25 20;00 pm
Pili is getting more relaxed and is now happy to leave the puppies for short periods of time, for a bit of a breather and a cuddle in the living room.
Saturday 19/04/25 16;00 pm
Pili is obviously into interior decorating as she is always re-arranging the whelping box. She scuffs up the vet bed, turns it over and is generally messes it around. Unfortunately she got the single use whelping box as she was second to have her litter. Its a little smaller then ore usual plastic whelping box that Pasi's litter is, but we don't want to swap them over. The puppies will be moving into puppy pens soon so we can optimise sizes better then.`
Friday 18/04/25 11;00 pm
We fed three of the lightest puppies with Lactol puppy milk. This will help them thrive as eight is quite a large litter.
Thursday 17/04/25 11;00 am
Pili getting a bit more relaxed. She is now prepared to leave the puppies for a short while.
Wednesday 16/04/25 7;20 pm
The puppies had their first Super Dog session. It is done once a day and consists of holding the puppies first upright, then on then upside down, then on their backs. Next their paws are tickled with a cotton bud, finally they are placed on a cold wet flannel for a few seconds. This is a research based system that promotes neural growth and can also help development of their immune system.
Tuesday 15/04/25 7;20 pm
A bit of a surprise tonight's weigh in. We did it in natural light and spotted that actually all except three of the puppies are black, white and tan, i.e. they have a small amount of tan somewhere. We have updated the descriptions on the Puppy
Weights graph.
